What is a Headache?
Headache is a broad term that encompasses many different things. Headaches are pains that occur in any region of the head; they can occur on both sides the head or be isolated to a certain location.
Headaches can radiate across the head from a central point or have a piercing quality. They can be sharp, throbbing or dull, appear gradually or suddenly and last for multiple days or less than an hour.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that around 47% of adults worldwide will have experienced a headache within the last year. As well as being symptoms of other conditions, headache disorders can lead to the development of other illnesses. Depression is three times more common in individuals with severe headaches than in healthy people.
Since there are many types of headaches, they are split into categories considered Primary and Secondary Headaches. Primary Headaches include Cluster Headaches, Migraine Headaches, and Tension Headaches.

Pain in the head or neck region
Sharp, throbbing, or dull pain
Causes of Primary Headaches
- Overactivity of or problems with pain-sensitive structures in your head
- Chemical activity in the brain, the nerves or blood vessels surrounding your skull, or the muscles of your head and neck (or some combination of these factors)
Symptoms of Secondary Headaches
Secondary Headaches are symptoms of another condition that the pain-sensitive nerves of the head
- Blood clots
- Brain Freeze
- Overuse of pain medication
- Panic Attackes

Therapeutic Yoga Treatment for Headaches
We also offer Therapeutic Yoga or Yoga-Based Physical Therapy to treat headaches. Treatment will involve using blocks and props to relieve pain and lengthen or shorten neck musculature.
