By now you probably know that low back pain is extremely common; however, the first time you feel it, it’s not common to you. Sure, you have a lot of company – 80% of adults report low back pain at some point in their lives – but you’re also in a lot of pain, may be unable to sleep, work, carry your children, or even just put on your socks. Whether it’s new pain or chronic pain that has been resistant to medical treatment, you need help from caring professionals who understand how your pain is affecting your body, mind, and spirit.


There are almost as many causes of low back pain as there are sufferers. Lumbar strain – damage or injury to the muscles, tendons, or ligaments of the low back – is the most frequently reported cause.

Other common causes are nerve impingement by bones, muscles, or other tissues; nerve inflammation; and certain kinds of arthritis.

And of course, stress is also a factor. Stress causes muscle tension which causes pain; the more pain you are in, the more stress you feel – it becomes a vicious cycle that is difficult to break.


Treating pain with medication may work in the short term, but long-term use of NSAIDs, opioids, and other drugs often comes with unwanted side effects. Luckily we are here to help.

In addition to exercise and physical therapy, massage therapy is an excellent way to help heal low back pain and help prevent it from recurring.

In fact, a 2011 study found that massage therapy was more effective in treating low back pain in adults than traditional drug therapy.
